This non-State position is responsible for performing at the advanced level and carries out preventative maintenance, HVAC maintenance and repair, and/or restoration activities in one or more of the traditional trades fields on structures, systems and equipment to help ensure efficient operation of a physical plant.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Operation methods and basic maintenance of hand tools, hand power tools, landscaping or grounds keeping equipment and supplies.

  2. Basic methods and techniques used in a variety of trade fields such as carpentry, plumbing, painting or electrical.

  3. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction and communicate verbally.

  4. Knowledge of HVAC.

  5. Knowledge of schematics or blue print design and interpretation.

  6. Knowledge of record keeping, document maintenance and inventory control.

**THIS POSITION REQUIRES AVAILABILITY FOR AND ABILITY TO RESPOND TO PROBLEMS AND/OR EMERGENCIES AFTER NORMAL WORKING HOURS AND ON WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS. THIS POSITION REQUIRES A CURRENT AND VALID DELAWARE DRIVER'S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK. **

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Performs preventative routine and complex maintenance repairs on interior and exterior building structures, fixtures and appurtenances; bridges; heavy duty structural and mechanical equipment or HVAC and other systems.

  • Performs restoration and renovation on facilities; bridges and/or historical buildings; builds partitions, shelving from sketches, plans or instructions, renovates furniture and equipment and may design layout to ensure most efficient use of space.

  • Recommends referral of jobs beyond financial or capability limits to private contractors.

  • Maintains and repairs compressor, pumps, hydraulic lifts, treatment and disposal plants and operates and maintains HVAC systems and complex plumbing projects.

  • Operates and maintains life safety devices such as play ground equipment, sprinkler systems, etc.

  • May oversee the work of skilled, semi-skilled maintenance, and laboring personnel in performing specific assignments or in a training situation.

  • Maintains records of work performed, materials used and time spent on assignments and may secure through established procedures, materials and supplies.

  • May perform lighting or equipment maintenance.
